Why Canva can be a shelters best friend

Updated: Nov 7, 2019

As animal rescues and shelters alike attempt to adapt to new technology and ever-changing ways to get their animals adopted, the issue of time and resources prevails. Social media presides as an important tool to get publicity and visibility to rescues and available animals, but this can be a daunting task to tackle. Shelters struggle with how to create quality content without wasting time and resources that is precious and limited. Luckily, the platform Canva exists. Canva has hundreds of premade templates FREE to use. After making an account, users can customize premade templates to fit their needs. They can start with an attractive and eye-catching base and change the information and photos to adjust to their content. This can save hours as the templates are premade and the learning curve is quite small to get to know Canva and it's design tools.

Pet Rescue Resources has made dozens of premade templates for rescues to use that are themed and focused on getting animals adopted. These can be found on our website.

There are many options other than the premade templates Pet Rescue Resources created and they can all be found at www.Canva.com. They also have a "Quick Start Guide" that gives a rundown on how to use their platform and change designs. That can be found following this link. Pet Rescue Resources also has fliers and social media posts targeted to rescues premade! Click on the tab above for "Events" and "Social Media Templates"

Note: When posting to Petfinder, it is best to use a high resolution image in good lighting WITHOUT any added template or collage app. People will want to see a full screen image of the animals they're interested in. Canva templates and other editing platforms are perfect for posts on Facebook and Instagram.
