A fantastic way to get your animal exposure to their future family is by posting a video of them on your website or social media. This will allow people to see more sides of their personality than a photo but have the same easy visibility as a photo. The following tips will help you create a successful video that is sure to get your animal noticed!
1. Action
Make the video interesting by showing the animal playing, purring, or rolling around. This will catch the viewers eye and let them see their personality!
2. Show off
If the animal has any special tricks or training, show it off! People will be impressed and excited to know the animal has potential and brains!
3. Glow Ups
Use the video as a way to show their history and how far they've come. You can combine videos of when they first came in with photos and videos of how they're doing now. People love a good comeback story!
4. Interactions
Let people see how the animals interact with other cats, dogs, kids, and adults. Show them walking on a leash or playing with their fellow shelter mate. This lets people understand what environment/family/lifestyle the animal is best suited for.
5. Eliminate Distractions
When taking a video, try to keep the background noise to a minimum so viewers aren't distracted. Go to a quiet room, or a grassy area away from others. Take away distracting items like boxes and trashcans from the background so the focus can be on the animal.
6. Explain and Caption
Make sure to explain the dog's situation and skills when posting the video as well as open with a great caption to catch people's eyes as they scroll through their feeds.
7. Edit
Although some videos may be ready to post instantaneously, many of them will need some extra love after being filmed. You can use free websites and apps to edit videos like iMovie and Splice. This will allow you to cut extraneous time out from the video as well as combine it with other clips and even add music.
Where to post your video
Now that you have a great video, you'll want to post it for the world to see. Make sure to post the video on your Facebook (story or feed), website, Instagram (story or feed), your organizations Petfinder profile, and feel free to send it to local medias and ask for them to share (i.e. local news, local cultural Instagram). As well as sending the video directly to local (and national, why not!) you can tag them in the post so they definitely see the video and feel encouraged to share it on their platforms
