Austin Pets Alive! isn’t just your typical animal shelter. They are a no-kill shelter, so they focus on saving the animals that are most at risk of euthanasia. Creating programs to save the lives of adoptable animals is a huge part of who they are. Because of this generous undertaking, they’re always looking for people to volunteer, foster, and of course, adopt!
When people come to adopt a pet at Austin Pets Alive!, they meet with a matchmaker first. The matchmaker discusses what the adopter is looking for, then informs each person about which animals would be the best fit for them. APA! suggests for every potential adopter to meet with a matchmaker before adopting to go over their home life and any other personal details to make recommendations on the best dog (or cat) for their home. Some people come in with an idea of the animal they'd like to adopt based on photos online, but these interviews are important in determining whether or not a pet is right for that particular person.That way, every animal can go home with the perfect family.
Successful Austin Pets Alive! Events
Austin Pets Alive! has had plenty of successful events, but a lot of it has to do with their social media presence. They use social media to post upcoming events to help get animal lovers interested and aware of what’s going on with the rescue.
They have seen lots of success with adoption events occurring during events such as SXSW, which is a two-week long festival in Austin. How APA! participates in SXSW is different each year. Sometimes they feature adoptable dogs under a tent and other times they set up an info/merch table with outreach materials for the public to take and learn more about us. They only advertise events that are open to the public to attend, as a lot of SXSW events require a wristband or badge to get in.
Fundraising events are most successful when they’re community-driven. Giving Tuesday and Amplify Austin Day are both great days for all non-profit organizations in the area. They have events on a regular basis, so feel free to check them out!
Austin Pets Alive! on Social Media
Austin Pets Alive! has a large social media following, which is where a lot of their success comes from. They have about 246,000 followers across all their different platforms. This large following then sees the adoptable animals they feature their on their website and on social media and helps get their animals to their forever homes faster than they would just with walk-ins.
To help with events and social presence, they have an event coordinator and a social media coordinator. Both of these are paid positions, and these individuals work hard to promote the adoptable animals as much as possible.
Austin Pets Alive! shares a variety of posts on their social media. This consists of videos of adoptable pets, local events, photos, and information about adoptable animals.
